How You Can Restart Your Liver On The Dr Oz Show

Dr Oz, Restart Your Liver, Detox, Liver Detoxifying Drink
Dr Oz invited three women to come to the stage to share with him why they chose the liver as the organ that they would most like to rejuvenate.  The first woman said that it was mostly because of the food that she ate when she was younger.  Dr Oz said that many people feel this way and up to a certain point our organs can handle it when we are younger but as we get older it can become too much.  I know that I've put a big strain on my liver so I was very much interested in this segment of today's show!

Dr Oz said that alcohol can damage the liver, but he said that for most of us the biggest culprit is eating fatty and sugary foods for years and years. Dr Oz performed a demonstration on stage to show what is taking place when we eat fatty foods.  Our livers act like a filter and when we are eating healthy foods the liver has little problem clearing it out..  The problem we face when eating unhealthy (fatty) foods is that the liver gets clogged up and it doesn't leave any room for the filtering process.

Dr Oz said that the liver is the one organ that is designed to fix itself. So, how can you rejuvenate your liver?

Liver Detoxifying Drink

  • 1/4 cup of warm water
  • Juice of 1 lemon wedge
  • 2 dashes of hot sauce
The lemon juice has vitamin C in it and is a potent anti-oxidant.   The warm water helps to flush the liver.  The casaicin in the hot sauce increases blood flow and helps the liver detoxify itself.

Restart your Liver With Bitter Greens

  • Eat bitter greens and curciferous vegetables (3 cups per day)
  • bitter grreens include Arugula, endive, regular spinach and broccoli
Cruciferous vegetables contain a chemical that helps your liver to detoxify itself. Bitter greens help to increase bile flow to the liver.
